Vicom has evolved into the leading independent provider of RF test equipment, Optical test equipment, measurement instrumentation, equipment service and NATA accredited calibration within Australia, New Zealand and the South West Pacific.
Our current range of integrated test and measurement solutions satisfy the needs of telecommunications carriers, system providers, manufacturers, Defence Forces, Defence contractors and field service organisations. Vicom's capabilities address wireless, audio, avionics, broadcast, communications, data, transmission, fibre optics and automated test system technologies.

EXFO have released the new Fiberbasix 50 Series Power Meter EPM-50.
The CNT-91 Timer/Counter/Analyzer is the highest performance counter for measurement, analysis and calibration of frequency, time interval and phase. The CNT-91 is very suitable for production test systems, for R&D, in calibration labs, or in the field.
Industry First
Whether for mobile backhaul, TDM/ISDN or Ethernet commercial services testing, the AXS-200/855 streamlines processes and seamlessly transitions from E1/DS1, DS3 or PRI circuits, to a full suite of Ethernet performance test functionalities without swapping modules or test units—using a single preloaded software package.
Enables fast deployment, through quick reporting and workflow management.
Delivers performance assurance for Ethernet-based frame services; provides all the measurements required for validating traffic, loading and service-level agreements (SLAs) between network elements.
The LeCroy WaveRunner Xi-A is the most powerful and capable scope available in its class. Basic system validation using advanced triggers, fast viewing, measurement parameters, or serial decodes is simple and easy. Advanced debug, multi-domain analysis, and waveshape analysis are possible with tools unique to WaveRunner Xi-A.

LAN & Outside PlantFor optical power loss testing of LAN (typically: multimode networks) and Outside Plant (typically: singlemode networks), contractors require low-cost, robust and accurate test equipment. Measuring loss using an optical loss test set (OLTS) or an optical power meter and light source combination enables installers to quickly certify the performance of the link, as well as to rapidly detect potential problems. Depending on the required test wavelengths, storage capacity and reporting capabilities, they range from the low-cost 'FiberBasix 50 Testers' to the bi-directional 'Maxtester 930' units. |

Mobile BackhaulAs the network backhaul infrastructure evolves to support new technologies that require more and more bandwidth, service providers need to gain real-time, end-to-end insight into network performance in order to manage existing architectures and ensure service quality regardless of the underlying technology—all the while meeting their bottom-line objectives. |

Fiber CharacterisationIt is a widely recognised fact: demand for bandwidth keeps growing. As they strive to reduce total network costs, network operators are considering options such as speeding up the per-channel data transfer, lighting up new communication channels. These large, powerful systems can take network performance to the next level, but they require proper installation, tuning and maintenance. |

40 Gbit/s 100 Gbit/sBandwidth demands continue to increase at an astonishing pace. To accommodate the ongoing surge in traffic, service providers are looking into faster 40 Gbit/s networks. In addition to greater speeds, this new technology means a possible shift toward different infrastructures to compensate for various challenges that do not apply to slower networks like 10 Gbit/s. |
Splicing 12 cores into 24 core cables, seems simple enough with modern splicing tools.
However, not testing them before hand can cause problems such as not having a connection to the other end.
By good fortune the company who was testing these fibers spoke to one of our technical specialist who went out the next morning with an OTDR and FIP to test the circuits.
Testing revealed 5 out of 12 fibers had a very high macro bending loss. Surprisingly most of the problems were at the patch panel with up to 3.5db losses. Fault finding using the EXFO OTDR, pinpointed the problem area, this being inadequate routing of the fibres causing severe macro bending losses. The testing and fault finding was completed within 15 minutes.
The cost of the truck roll would have been approximately $800. Training the personnel with the appropriate test equipment would have avoided unnecessary expenses.
