The iOLM provides significant cost reductions by allowing comprehensive testing by entry level technicians, reducing overall test time and eliminating unnecessary truck rolls. All results can be saved to a data base for accurate “as built” records.
Whether it be UFB or NBN; planned fiber deployments in Australia and New Zealand will be put great demand on scarce technician skill sets and will be under the microscope for cost effective deployment.
Traditionally a shortage of technicians has been resolved by importing the required skills or intensive retraining programs-both approaches are time consuming and expensive and (as a survey of overseas fiber deployments shows) still prone to a repeat truck roll rate of 5-10%.
The completely automated technology of the iOLM from EXFO uses advanced algorithms to ensure that all elements of a link are fully and accurately characterized . The iOLM enables an entry level technician with basic training to fully characterize the different sections of an FTTH network with the optimum pulse width and consolidate the information into a single comprehensive Link View.
