Rapid change taking place in the telecommunications industry is driving increased demand for test and measurement accuracy, to ensure consistent customer service levels. As a consequence, Vicom has established calibration laboratories, in both Sydney and Melbourne, committing significant resources and regularly reviewing calibration capability to ensure we maintain our competitive position in the calibration market.

Quality Management practices of both these laboratories is consistent with Australian Standards. The Electronics Standards Laboratory holds accreditation (# 2264) with the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) and is situated in the company head office in Melbourne. The National Service Manager is responsible for the administration of both laboratories whilst overall technical operation of the Electronics Standards Laboratory is the responsibility of the Engineering Manager.

To comply with the terms of NATA registration, the Electronics Standards Laboratory must have the equipment necessary for performance of the tests covered by registration. Every item of equipment must be well maintained and satisfy the requirements of a documented test method.

Repeatable, accurate results can be achieved only if all measurements are derived from a single source of authority. Therefore NATA requires the calibration of laboratory standards and test equipment in terms of the Commonwealth Standards of Measurement maintained by the CSIRO's Division of Applied Physics. NATA registration also requires that properly qualified and experienced technical staff perform all duties. To ensure that standards of practice complying with NATA's criteria for registration are maintained, the Electronics Standards Laboratory is subject to routine audits and assessments.
