In late 2000, EXFO acquired Burleigh Instruments. The strengths of EXFO and Burleigh now combine in semi-automated workstations for alignment, assembly and testing of photonics components.

Deriving its name from expertise in fiber optics, EXFO is a leading designer and manufacturer of fiber-optic test, measurement and automation solutions for the photonics and telecommunications industries. With headquarters in Vanier, Quebec, EXFO markets its products to more than 2000 customers in 70 countries worldwide.

Reflecting marketplace needs, EXFO and its subsidiaries develop products primarily for two markets:

• The Portable and Monitoring Division provides handheld and modular instruments to telecommunications carriers, cable television companies, public utilities, third-party installers and equipment rental companies.

• The Industrial and Scientific Division, which includes Burleigh Instruments offers an extensive line of more sophisticated and higher-performance instruments and automated manufacturing equipment. Its products are used by manufacturers of optical components, photonic devices and optical networking systems as well as in research and development.
