Do you need to test multimode fibres?

Traditional LAN optical fibre has been multimode however increasingly, singlemode fibre is being deployed in LAN networks too. If this is your testing environment, choose either a dual wavelenth multimode OTDR or a quad wavelength singlemode/multimode OTDR.

If your requirement is for a more general purpose OTDR that includes 3 or 4 singlemode wavelengths, the best option is usually to choose two separate OTDRS - one dedicated to multimode (at lower cost) and the other dedicated (and optimised) for singlemode.

If you don't include multimode fibre test capability in your OTDR requirements, far more models are available.
